In a move to encourage local manufacturers, Tamil Nadu Traders stopped selling multi-national brands Pepsi and Coke from Today (March 1st, 2017).

Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam, which is the largest trade body in the southern state, comprising of 6,000 small and medium shops/retail stores boycotted Pepsi and Coco Cola. It's a collective decision of as many as 1.5 million members. This move is going to cost the two multi-national companies Rs 1,400 crore.

Whereas, Restaurants and Supermarkers which are around 5,000 in number sought more time to boycott the soft-drink majors.

The demand for boycott of Multi-National Cola Brands was raised during the Jallikattu protest in Tamil Nadu. These companies were blamed for killing domestic firms and water scarcity.
