Has Ponnala Lakshmaiah got some assurance from the Congress High Command that he would be given the party ticket from his home constituenc of Janagam? It appears so because the Ponnala Supporters who have been staging a dharna at the Gandhi Bhavan for the past two days are looking upbeat and are grinning from ear to ear. Some of them have already left the place.
Even Ponnala, who was confined to his residence for the past two days, has begun his campaign in Cheryal area. Sources close to Ponnala say that the Congress High Command has given him an assurance that he would be given the ticket to contest from the seat of his choice. Ponnala spent anxious moments when there were reports that Prof Kodandaram of TJS would be fielded from Janagam. Ponnala not just opposed this, but also warned that this could send wrong signals among the BCs as Kodandaram is a Reddy and he would be replacing a BC (Ponnala). He and other Congress leaders to have sent info to the high command that there was a concerted effort to sideline or deny tickets to potential CM contenders within the Congress. Reacting to this, the high command said that Ponnala would be given a seat of his choice.
