Seat sharing in Maha Kutami is giving heart burn to several Congress biggies. At least three major leaders have been denied tickets to accommodate the alliance partners' demands. For instance, Janagam has been given to Telangana Jana Samithi chief Prof Kodandaram and Ponnala, a former PCC chief, has been denied ticket. Similarly, Khammam MP seat has been given over to the TDP leaving senior Congress leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy in the lurch. Another major leader, who has not been given ticket is Marri Sasidhar Reddy.
What is shocking for the Congress leaders, who have been denied tickets, is that the Congress high command is giving more importance to parties like the TDP and the TJS than to its own trusted and loyal workers. They feel that Rahul Gandhi is giving seats to the alliance partners without ascertaining the strength of the party candidates. Several disgruntled Congressmen rushed to New Delhi to meet the high command and pour out their woes. To their shock, they found that Rahul Gandhi curtly told them that they have to be accommodative this time. The tickets have already been allocated to Kutami partners, they were told. Rahul did not give them any assurance or did not spell out any rehab plan. These leaders were curtly told that there would be no change in the seat-adjustment.
Party sources say that Ponnala anyday stands a better chance of winning than Prof. Kodandaram at Janagam. Similarly, in Khammam and Sanat Nagar too, the Congress has better chances when compared to the TDP. Yet, Rahul Gandhi seems to be giving undue importance to the TDP.
