Following the controversy over his upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth decided to cancel it to end the issue as early as possible. A 3-page statement has been issued by him on Saturday in this regard.

Rajini claimed he wanted to visit Sri Lanka as that's the country several Tamilians had lost their lives fighting for their rights. He even planned to meet Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena for requesting him for peaceful consensus to resolve the fisherman issue. 'Finally, I decided to cancel my visit after VCK chief Thirumavalan and MDMK Chief Vaiko appealed Me citing my trip would send wrong indications. What I would like to say here is I'm not a politician but an actor who's job is to make people happy. If I get an chance to visit Sri Lanka and meet Lankan Tamils in future, Please don't politicise it!,' he appealed.

On April 9th this year, Rajinikanth was supposed to offer 150 homes to the displaced Tamils in the programme organized by Lyca Productions 'Gnanam Foundation' in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He, however, had to cancel the trip after VCK and MDMK Chiefs warned him of serious consequences.
