A Delegation of 16 Farmers led by National South Indian Rivers Inter-Linking Farmers Association President P Ayyakannu met Rajinikanth on Sunday to seek his support for the interlinking of rivers.
During the protest on the Cauvery water issue in 2002, Rajinikanth offered Rs 1 crore for interlinking Himalayan and Peninsula Rivers. When the delegation reminded him about this promise, Thalaivar decided to issue Rs 1 crore cheque immediately. However, The Farmers requested him to hand it over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the sake of the project.
Post the meeting, P Ayyakannu said Rajinikanth will do all the needful for the interlinking of rivers such as Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi, Cauvery and Palaru. 'Rajini assured us that he would bring the issue to the notice of PM,' he told.
May be, Rajinikanth wishes to win the hearts of farmers before making him foray into Politics.
