An unprecedented development took place in the history of Indian judiciary. The senior judges in the Supreme Court called for a press conference and expressed their dissatisfaction over the current state of affairs in the Supreme Court.
Justice Madan Lokur, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Kurien Joseph conducted a press meet at the residence of Justice Jasti Chalameswar. They have released a letter to the media revealing the reasons behind their press meet. While speaking at the press meet Justice Chalameswar said that "We met CJI this morning. We collectively tried to persuade CJI that certain things aren't in order to take remedial measures but unfortunately our efforts failed."
The other judges revealed that "All our efforts were failed in convincing CJI to take steps to protect the institution." They tried to support their unusual decision saying that "The Supreme Court is not in order and we are compelled to do this." When the journalists asked the justices whether CJI should be impeached from his post, Justice Chalameswar replied that the nation will take a decision on the issue.
Considering the seriousness of the issue, PM Narendra Modi met Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and discussed over the issue. On the other hand, Chief Justice of India Deepak Mishra met Attorney General.
