There is no dearth of politicians who make controversial statements and provoke people in India. The strange thing is that they are in all parties and they don't even feel bad when they make such foolish statements. Recently, a BJP MLA named Surendra Singh from UP demanded that the government should rename historical structures in India.
He suggested that Taj Mahal should be changed as Ram Mahal or Krishna Mahal or Rashtrabhakt Mahal or Shivaji Mahal. He added that the government should change the names of roads, historical structures and other monuments that were built by Muslims in the country. He recommended that one the monuments should be renamed after former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam.
Needless to say, his statements attracted criticism from the netizens and opposition party leaders. Controversial statements are not new for Surendra Singh. A few days ago, he compared PM Narendra Modi with Lord Rama and WB CM Mamata Banerjee with Shurpanaka.
