The Sports Ministry recommended Tennis sensation Sania Mirza for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to honour her for her contribution to the sport she represents and the country.
Sports Minister Sarbanada Sonowal proposed the name of Sania Mirza for the highest honour given for achievement in sports. However, The final decision whether to honour the Hyderabadi Star or not rests with the Award Committee. Sports Secretary Ajit Sharan confirms the development.
