Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Theory on the slump in the Automobile Industry since April 2019 has been criticized by media, public and experts. The Minister opined car sales has dropped drastically in the recent months as those in the age group of 20 to 40 has been preferring Ola and Uber rides rather than paying monthly EMIs by owning a Car.
Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava differed with the views expressed by the Union Finance Minister. He stressed there is need to conduct a study to understand what led to the downfall rather than reaching such a conclusion.'Ola and Uber came into existence since the last 6-7 years. During this period, Automobile Industry has witnessed good growth. What happened in the recent months that led to severe crisis? I don't think its only because of Ola and Uber'.
Domestic Sales has decreased by 15.89 percent to 97,32,040 units during the period April to August 2019. Decline in August has been 23.55 percent, the highest of all the five months.
Maruthi Suzuki declared its sales kept declining for seventh consecutive month. In August, The sales of India's leading automobile firm fell by 32.7 percent to 1,06,413 units.
