Breaking: Govt nod for New Religion in India!

Congress-ruled Karnataka Government agreed to recommend Lingayat Community be recognized as a separate religion.
Basavanna, a 12-century social reformer, is the founder of Lingayat Community which was formed opposing the Hindu Veerashaivas which supported vedas and caste system. Lingayats has been demanding Minority Status. A 7-Member Expert Committee submitted it's report to Karnataka Government on March 2nd favouring the demand.
On Monday, Congress CM Siddaramaiah convened a cabinet meeting and gave nod for recommending separate religion for Lingayat Community. This decision comes ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Polls. Usually, Lingayat-Hindu Veerashaiva's favour BJP. Congress might have been luring Lingayats with the above recommendation. How will BJP counter this political strategy? It will lose the 18 percent vote bank of Lingayats if it opposes the decision?
