A photo of stone pelting girl in Kashmir has been widely published in the national and international media a few months ago.  It appeared like a new trend in Kashmir agitations as girls were never involved in stone pelting on the police.  The pic has gone viral within no time and it has created a sensation.

It has become a hot topic and people started discussing why the girl has pelted stones on the police and what made her so angry.  It is very common that boys will be involved in this kind of activities in Kashmir valley but not girls. Her identity has been found as Afshan Ashiq.

The reason for her anger is.. when she was walking down the road along with her friends some people were staging a protest and police were trying to control the mob.  Even though these girls had nothing to do with that protest, police fired tear gas at them.  Afshan Ashiq got angry with them and tied her chunny covering the face and started pelting stones on the police.  The reporter who was covering the protest took the pictures of her and it became a sensation later.

You will be surprised to know what she is doing at present.  She is captaining the Kashmir state football team now.  Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently visited Kashmir and he met the state women football team during his visit.  He has congratulated captain Afshan Ashiq.   She said to have requested the Home Minister to set up Sports Authority of India institute in Kashmir to train young girls in sports like football.

Apart from representing Kashmir team, Afshan is also playing for a Mumbai club. Another interesting thing is that a Bollywood filmmaker is planning to make a biopic on Afshan Ashiq's life.
