Even as Chandrababu is gloating over the defeat of the BJP in the three north Indian states and is claiming credit for the saffron party's discomfiture, here is a shocker for him. His party is all set to lose the region party status in Telangana. The party, which has been facing shock after shock in Telangana after it aligned with its arch rival for over three decades, is likely to lose its recognitation as a regional party. The party contested 13 seats in the just concluded assembly elections and won just two seats.
According to Central Election Commission regulations, a party can be recognized as a regionl party only if it wins six per cent votes and wins at least four seats. In Telangana, the party has just two MLAs and barely 3.5 per cent votes. So, if the rules are applied strictly after the upcoming general elections, the TDP is likely to lose the regional party status is Telangana. It will remain a party of only Andhra Pradesh.
