Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) filed an affidavit in an Agra Court confirming Taj Mahal as the tomb of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
A self-styled historian PN Oak wrote a book saying he have evidence to prove the Hindu origins of Taj Mahal. After which, Few Advocates of Lucknow moved a civil suit seeking acceptance to the version that Taj Mahal was a Shiva Temple and renaming it as 'Tejomahalay'. They had even sought re-opening the closed parts of the monument to find out truth. However, The affidavit submitted by ASI puts an end to the baseless speculation.
ASI's Counsel Anjali Sharma informed court that Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his deceased wife Mumtaz. She termed the evidence presented by the opposite party to prove the monument was Shiva Temple in the past was imaginary. The Advocate pointed out Supreme Court had issued clear directions on which parts of Taj Mahal should be kept open for Tourists and which ones must remain closed.
