State and Central Governments have been encouraging Inter-Caste Marriages by providing financial assistance to curb caste discrimination. While Telangana Government offers Rs 50,000 as incentive, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment sanctions Rs 2.5 lakh if one of the spouses is a Dalit.
In 2016, 170 Couples in Telangana applied for Inter-Caste Marriages. This has gone up to 210 in the last year. The low growth rate prompts TRS Government to raise the financial assistance provided to the couples opting for Inter-Caste Marriages.
Telangana State Social Welfare Director Karunakar brought the proposal of increasing the incentive provided for Inter-Caste Marriages from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh if one of the spouses is an SC. If the Caretaker CM KCR approves the proposal, Total Rs 5 lakh incentives would be provided to such Young Couples on behalf of State and Central Governments.
