Shocker for TRS: Centre Wants Rs 190 Crore Back

Nothing seems to be going in KCR's favour. He expected no show by the Opposition after he dissolved the Assembly and called for early polls. But, the Congress got its act together quite quickly and roped in all major parties to put up a formidable show. Then, belying KCR's expectations, there was huge dissidence within the party and he is now worried as to how to quell the dissent.
Now, here comes the real shocker! Even as he is going in for the polls, the Central Government has asked him to return Rs 190 crore given under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Why? Because the funds given by the Centre to construct houses for the poor, have not been spent. The TRS government sat over the money and did nothing. Modi Government, which is rooting for accountability, has asked the TRS government to return the money as it was not spent. The Centre wanted the TRS government to give the details of the houses constructed. Despite repeated requests the TRS government has not sent the details. So a miffed Centre has asked for the return of the money.
This move has not only exposed the inaction of the State Government on the issue of constructing houses for the poor, but also showed that the State Government did not have any details about the houses constructed. The Centre has allocated the funds as part of its attempts to construct 1 crore houses for the poor. The Telangana government not only did not spend the money, but it also did not keep any accounts of the amounts released.
