Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Tirumala have 9,259 kg gold deposits in its treasury and various banks. While 5,387 kg of gold was deposited in SBI, About 1,938 kg of gold was with the Indian Overseas Bank. There are 553 kg of gold in the TTD Treasury.

AP Government ordered for a probe over the alleged lapses into the release and transportation of 1,381 kg of gold belonging to TTD after its seizure in Tamil Nadu by the Election Commission. On April 17th, EC seized the gold in Tiruvallur District when it was transported from PNB branch in Chennai to the TTD Treasury in Tirupati.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) takes care of the matters related to the India's Richest Temple. TTD's Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal informed, 'Punjab National Bank (PNB) returned 1,381 kg of gold on April 20th after the 3 year scheme reached maturity. PNB will have to take complete responsibility of the gold until it delivers to the TTD treasury'.

When the gold was seized a day before elections in Tamil Nadu, TTD denied the reports that it belongs to the Tirumala Temple. And now, EO defends the stand taken by the Temple Body saying it becomes the TTD's Gold only after it reaches the treasury. He clarified the transportation of gold during elections is just a coincidence and it was supposed to reach Tirumala by April 18th. He also informed PNB should take the responsibility to bring the gold to the TTD Treasury along with 70 kg gold as interest.
