Rs 78 cr Sanctioned, still Dipa Karmakar returns BMW!

Ace Gymnast Dipa Karmakar who made the Indian flag fly high with remarkable performance at Rio Olympic 2016 was gifted BMW 320d by Hyderabad Badminton Association (HBA), Sachin Tendulkar & few Businessman. After few days, She decided to return the car to Hyderabad Badminton Association as the roads in her home town Agartala weren't suitable for driving such costly cars. Instead, The Gymnast urged HBA to offer cash equivalent to the cost of the car or any amount it decides.
This decision of Dipa Karmakar caused enough embarrassment to the Tripura Government. Chief Minister ordered Agartala Municipal Corporation to take up road repairs works in the locality where the Gymnast stays at the earliest. He already sanctioned Rs 78 crore for the repair works of the road.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Prafullajit Sinha informed that the entire stretch from Dipa Karmakar's garage at Abhoynagar to Government Medical College will be widened to ensure a smooth and hassle free BMW ride.
Appreciating the decision of the State Government, Dipa Karmakar clarified poor roads isn't the only reason behind her decision to return the car. 'High maintenance and service is a concern. We have made up our mind to return the car,' she told.
