TRS senior leader and Khammam strongman Tummala Nageswara Rao is in a fix. Party boss KCR has given him the responsibility of ensuring the victory of Madiga leader and SC development corporation chief Pidamarthi Ravi from Sattupalli assembly constituency. Sattupalli is Tummala's stronghold and the people from his community dominate the politics there. But, there is strong opposition to Pidamarthi Ravi from within the TDP.
Tummala himself held a meeting there to convince the leaders from the Kamma community to back Pidamarthi Ravi. He had even told them that he would become a minister only if he gets Pidamarthi Ravi emerges victorious. He told them that his continuance in the ministry depends only on Ravi's victory.
Several TRS leaders belonging to the Kamma community are leaving the party and are joining the TDP. This has come as a shock for Tummala. Already key leaders like Kotturi Umamaheswara Rao, Ankam Raju and Gopi have joined the TDP despite the best efforts of Tummala. Several former ZPTCs, MPTCs and even former sarpanches are now queuing up to join the TDP. Meanwhile, Pidamarthi Ravi has allegedly complained to the TRS bosses that Tummala is not fully cooperating with him. Rebel leader Matta Dayananda Vijayakumar is also not cooperating with him. These developments have become a headache for Tummala.
