Villagers of Venkatapuram at Devarakadra mandal in Mahbubnagar district had faced enough issues in the past couple of months due to the monkey menace. Scores of monkeys roaming in the village would enter houses to steal food and destroyed 200 acres of crops. Already, 3 Women from the village got killed because of rabies contacted after being bitten by the monkeys.

The monkeys might have come from Peddagutta, where there is a small area of forest, as they were unable to live there. Neither Local MLA A Venkateswar Reddy nor Forest Department Officials came to their rescue despite lodging several complaints. Villagers believe CM KCR's Harita Haram, a programme intended to plant fruit-bearing trees in forests, only yields results in the long run.

Finally, Villagers have decided to collect a fund of 1 lakh from the contributions of 400 families. A deal was struck with the monkey catchers for a price of one lakh to get rid of the menace. In a 3-hour operation conducted on Tuesday, Around 30 monkeys have been trapped and they were set free at Nallamala Forest which is 75 km away. The operation might continue for 2-3 days.
