YSRs Dream Scheme To Die In Telangana
X
Arogya Sri, the ambitious universal health scheme launched by late YSR, could be a thing of past from Friday. The scheme meant to provide access to the poorest of the poor to quality and corporate medicare for free will stop being functional. The private and corporate hospitals have decided not to accept Arogya Sri patients as the Government has not paid arrears to a tune of Rs 1500 crore. Despite several several reminders, the Telangana government did precious little to meet their demands. As a result, the hospitals have decided to shut doors on Arogya Sri patients.

The Arogya Sri was the brainchild of late YSR. He introduced the scheme in 2007 for the poor, financially marginalised and under-privileged sections of the society. Under this scheme, over 240 hospitals across Telangana offered quality medicare free of cost to patients suffering from some 940 ailments. Though the Telangana government is claiming that it has recently released Rs 200 crore, the hospitals demand that at least 70 per cent of the Rs 1500 crore should be paid immediately.

The closure of the scheme would hit the poor and the marginalised in a big way. Under this scheme, they were being benefited by getting quality medical treatment at affordable costs.
