2025 World Box Office: Animation Film Beats All, Collects 19K Crores
Guess what, an animation film, which is not from Hollywood, has beaten them all.;
As the year 2025 is ending, a year that got packed with big-ticket Hollywood sequels, surely one of such films like Avatar 3, Jurassic World: Rebirth and Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, are expected to shake up the box office. Guess what, an animation film, which is not from Hollywood, has beaten them all.
Despite having limited buzz, the sequel to the 2019 Chinese animation blockbuster Ne Zha, the film Ne Zha 2, has ended up as the highest-grossing film of 2025. Made with a budget of around ₹700 crores, the film collected a staggering $2.2 billions from the global box office. This is roughly equal to 18-19K crores in rupees.
With Ne Zha 2’s success, one thing is proven: Hollywood has no longer commands over the global record-breaking films. This Chinese animation film worked well in China, Asia, and other select international markets. But then, the next slots are also occupied by animated films only, rather than traditional live-action movies.
Films like Zootopia ($1.5 billion), Lilo & Stitch ($ 1 billion) and A Minecraft ($960 million) movie are standing in the next three positions, thus kicking out traditional live-action movies from the list. With Avatar 3 ($760 million) performing very slow, the film hasn’t even managed to get into the Top 5 by the end of December.
