Dileep Case: What’s Other Side Of Story?

It is already known that famous Malayalam actor Dileep has finally been acquitted in the case that was filed against him by a popular Malayalam actress back in 2017.

Incidentally, a principal court in Kerala had finally passed the judgement in this case today as it was publicly communicated that Dileep is not guilty on any count and he has been proven not guilty. He is free of all the charges that were filed against him in the first place.

The case refers to the incident of February 17, 2017 when a popular Malayalam actress was abducted and sexually assaulted inside a moving vehicle near Kochi. The act was recorded on camera. The prosecution alleged that Dileep was the mastermind who conspired with the others to facilitate the assault. He stood trial as the eighth accused.

Over the years the case saw continual twists. There were repeated petitions before the High Court and Supreme Court. There were allegations of biased investigation, multiple transfer requests, disputes over access to the memory card evidence, changing testimonies and long delays.

For the survivor this litigation has meant constant court appearances, media glare and intense backlash within the film industry. The case triggered the rise of the Women in Cinema Collective and reopened the debate on power structures and protection of female artists.
