Senior actress Laila, known for her memorable performances in hits like Pithamagan, Nandha, and Ullam Ketkumae in the 2000s, has opened up about her unexpected health battle at the age of 44. After staying away from the limelight for years, Laila surprised everyone by revealing her rare medical condition during the promotions of her latest film, Shabdam.

Laila, originally from Goa, was a familiar face in Telugu and Tamil cinema. After marrying Iranian businessman Mehdini in 2006, she stepped away from films for a long time — only returning recently for roles in Karthi’s Sardar and Vijay’s The GOAT.

During Shabdam promotions, Laila shocked fans by revealing she suffers from a laughter disorder. According to her, she can’t stop laughing at times, and if she forces herself to stop, tears immediately flow. She recalled a funny yet emotional incident from Shivaputrudu, where Vikram challenged her not to laugh for a minute — she failed within 30 seconds, ruining her makeup.

Most recently, Laila played Nancy in Shabdam, alongside Aadhi Pinisetty. However, the film has been struggling at the box office. After a decent start, Shabdam collected around ₹3.23 crore net in its first three days, but its momentum dipped from day four onwards. Despite the film’s performance, Laila’s candid confession about her health has drawn sympathy and support from her fans.
