It’s the new wave in Indian cinema Bollywood stars turning Tollywood villains. After Bobby Deol’s scene-stealing role in Animal, Akshaye Khanna is now making a fiery entry into the South with Prashant Varma’s much-hyped superhero film Mahakali. Hot on the heels of his chilling performance in Chhaava, which stormed past ₹600 crore at the box office, Akshaye has been roped in for a key role in Mahakali, marking his debut in Telugu cinema and not just for one film. He’ll reportedly play a recurring character across multiple entries in the Prashant Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU).

Prashant Varma is on a roll after the phenomenal success of Hanu-Man, which raked in over ₹300 crore globally. With Mahakali, he’s building further on the superhero mythology of his unique cinematic world. While the lead actor for Mahakali remains a mystery, Akshaye Khanna’s inclusion has already spiced things up. His dark, intense screen presence fits perfectly into Varma’s edgy storytelling style. And now that he’s locked in for future PVCU films too, fans can expect a long-lasting and menacing impact.

Akshaye's entry into the PVCU marks a bold and exciting shift. From courtroom dramas to crime thrillers, the actor has done it all but a dark superhero universe is fresh territory. With Mahakali set to be an intense and visually grand addition to Varma’s universe, all eyes are now on how Khanna will shape the villainy in this rising franchise. The battle lines are being drawn, and Tollywood just got a little darker and a lot more interesting.
