Censor Rules Are Giving Filmmakers Sleepless Nights
A movie may be completed, promotions may be planned and the release date may be fixed, but one final hurdle can still create problems. That is the censor process.
These days, getting a censor certificate has become a major tension for many filmmakers. A movie may be completed, promotions may be planned and the release date may be fixed, but one final hurdle can still create problems. That is the censor process.
The latest example is Allari Naresh’s upcoming fantasy comedy Ramba Oorvasi Menaka. The film is scheduled to release on September 3, but reports suggest that the movie has faced an unexpected problem during the censor process.
The film has a fantasy world with three women characters shown as celestial beauties. The costumes of these characters are said to have raised objections from the Central Board of Film Certification. According to industry talk, the censor officials reportedly suggested changes to some of the costumes.
Interestingly, the costumes are part of the fantasy world created for the movie. The first look and teaser already gave audiences an idea about the colourful and fun world of the film. Allari Naresh plays a character surrounded by these fantasy elements, and the movie is expected to be a full comedy entertainer.
The makers are reportedly not ready to make major changes immediately. They are said to be looking at the possibility of approaching the Revising Committee. If the committee gives approval, the team may be able to release the movie without making major changes.
The biggest worry for the team is the release date. September 3 is very close, and any delay in getting the certificate can affect the entire release plan. Theatre bookings, promotions and other arrangements are already connected to the planned date. If the censor issue is not solved quickly, there could even be a discussion about postponing the release.
This situation once again shows how filmmakers can face tension even after completing a movie. A film can have a strong story, good performances and proper promotions, but censor clearance is still an important final step.
At the same time, censor rules are necessary to make sure films follow the required guidelines. But filmmakers also hope that the process will be clear and predictable, especially when the movie is already close to its release.
For Ramba Oorvasi Menaka, everyone is now waiting to see whether the censor issue will be solved quickly or create another last-minute problem.
