Telugu actor Allu Arjun appeared virtually before a Hyderabad court on Monday in connection with the Sandhya Theatre stampede case linked to the premiere of Pushpa 2. The court heard the matter and postponed the next hearing to July 29.
The case is related to the tragic stampede that took place on December 4, 2024, during the premiere show of Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. A large number of fans had gathered to see Allu Arjun, leading to heavy crowding. During the incident, a 35-year-old woman lost her life, while her eight-year-old son was injured.
Hyderabad Police have filed a 500-page chargesheet against 23 accused in the case. The chargesheet was submitted to the court, and copies were given to the accused. Allu Arjun has been named as Accused No. 11, while the theatre owner, partners, manager, balcony in-charge, and gatekeeper are listed among the first ten accused.
During Monday's hearing, Allu Arjun attended the proceedings through video conference. However, a few other accused did not appear before the court. The court expressed its displeasure over their absence and instructed all the accused to be present during future hearings.
After reviewing the matter, the court adjourned the case until July 29.
Following the stampede, police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The actor was arrested on December 13, 2024, but was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court the next day. He later received regular bail.
After the incident, Allu Arjun and the makers of Pushpa 2 extended financial support to the victim's family. The Telangana government also announced financial assistance. The case continues to remain under judicial process, with the next hearing expected later this month.
