Amazon New Pricing With Ads: Backfired Badly?
Amazon Prime Video users in India are upset after the company announced that ads will be shown during movies and shows starting June 17, 2025.;
It is already known that Amazon prime introduced a new pricing plan where they are offering their streaming service at nominal prices, but users must bear with the advertisements that come in between. However, this plan appears to have backfired badly already.
Amazon Prime Video users in India are upset after the company announced that ads will be shown during movies and shows starting June 17, 2025. Until now, Prime Video was ad-free for all users who had a regular Prime subscription. But now, users will need to pay an extra ₹129 per month or ₹699 per year to continue watching without ads.
This move has caused major backlash online. Many users feel cheated because they already pay for Prime and expected an ad-free experience. Some called it “double charging,” while others said it could lead to more people turning to piracy or switching to other platforms.
Amazon says the change is necessary to invest in better content and to keep overall prices affordable. They have already made similar changes in other countries. Current Prime benefits like fast delivery and Prime Music remain the same, but ad-free streaming is now a separate add-on.
Users now have to decide: accept ads, pay extra to remove them, or cancel their subscription. Many feel Amazon should have been more transparent before making this change.
