When the behind-the-scenes videos of James Cameron's blockbuster film franchise, Avatar, came out, many people wondered how they were able to shoot the motion of real people and the same into the CGI characters. What if India has a similar studio, and what if Hyderabad has that? Right now, Annapurna Studios is bringing such Hollywood technology to our very Tollywood.

Teaming up with Shobu Yarlagadda’s Mihira Visual Labs and Hollywood’s Animatrik Film Design, Nagarjuna Akkineni has opened a motion-capture facility inside Annapurna Studios, which is named A&M MoCap Lab. Featuring 60ft x 40ft x 30ft capture volume, with high precision optical tracking and real-time streaming to bridge the gap between imagination on set and final execution, they have shot parts of Rajamouli’s Varanasi at this facility.

In simple terms, they have created digital versions of Mahesh Babu and other characters using CGI for complex visual effects shots, and they have added movements to those characters through motion capture by making Mahesh Babu do the action inside this facility, wearing the sensor-tracking suit. At a time when Telugu film makers are already making pan-India films, these kinds of facilities in Hyderabad will pay way to making pan-global movies like Varanasi. Way to go to Hollywood!!
