Anu Emmanuel, who’s shared screens with big stars like Powerstar Pawan Kalyan in Agnyaathavaasi and Icon star Allu Arjun in Naa Peru Surya, Naa Illu India, recently popped up in a small role in Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend. And honestly, her part got noticed.
The movie is about women stuck in toxic relationships, and during an interview, Anu Emmanuel spoke openly about what abuse can really look like. “It’s not just hitting or shouting. A lot of times, it’s mental. When a guy says, ‘I love you so much… I want you to be there for me… Sacrifice your career for me,’ some girls think that’s love,” she said.
She went on, “Lots of women don’t even know emotional abuse is a thing. Some see it as normal because that’s what they grew up seeing, moms giving up their careers, getting married young, always putting someone else first. It becomes this never-ending pattern. The Girlfriend shows that you can actually break it.”
