And now he is finding himself in the middle of a legal crisis as a non bailable warrant has been issued against him.
According to the latest developments, a court in Surat, Gujarat, has permitted the initiation of a criminal case against Anurag Kashyap, following accusations of defaming the Brahmin community in connection with the 2015 release of the film Phule.
As per, a private complaint submitted by lawyer and Vishva Hindu Parishad leader Kamlesh Raval was partially accepted by Judicial Magistrate First Class AS Jani in Surat.
The complaint claimed that Anurag's social media post gained significant attention and defamed the Brahmin community. Anurag's post was made on April 16, 2025, following public protests against the trailer of Phule online.
Reacting on this matter, a social media user confidently posted a correct message, not just to Anurag Kashyap, but also other filmmakers.
“Surat court taking strict action against Anurag Kashyap sends a very clear message to everyone who thinks they can get away with targeted hate
Being a celebrity or filmmaker does not give you a free pass to insult people identity and then ignore multiple court summons like you are above the law. Accountability was long overdue for these derogatory remarks.” The post stated.
