Nandi Awards Are Back, But Twist For 2017-2024

Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government has confirmed that they are going to restart giving the Nandi Awards again. They are state awards given by the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government, honouring talent in cinema and television. However, after the state went into chaos with the Telangana agitation, from 2011, the awards didn’t happen, though they were announced for 2012-16. Here’s what the government has to say about this now.

The AP Film Development Corporation has today confirmed that Nandi Awards will be back, and they will be given for the year 2025-26, to start with. And the big twist is that, for the years 2017 to 2024, there will be only four awards that will be given per year. Though the best Telugu films like Baahubali, Kalki and other movies have come out during that time, it looks like the AP Govt doesn’t want to invite nearly 40 people each year in the name of awards and make it a crowded event. Well, the decision is arguable both ways.

On the other hand, the Nandi Awards for Television will be given at an event that will happen in Tirupati, and for cinema awards they will do it at a function in Amaravati. Recently, the Telangana government has started their own Gaddar Awards, and started honoring the talents in Telugu cinema.
