Making a biopic on a famous personality is a very difficult task in India. If the personality belongs to politics, then the filmmakers have to recheck the scenes and dialogues in the films hundreds of times. Despite this, the biopics attract some or the other controversy.

The recently released biopic Thalaivi, based on the life of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and yesteryear Superstar Jayalalitha, faced such controversy after a politician from Tamil Nadu batted for the demand of removing a few scenes from the biopic.

The demand came from a former Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) leader D Jayakumar. He said, there are a few scenes that are not factual and hence they should be removed.

Giving examples of such scenes that were picturised non factually, the former Minister said, there was a scene where MGR sought a Minister post from the DMK government but DMK leader Karunanidhi won’t accept MGR’s request. In reality, no such thing took place, Jayakumar said.

MGR never aimed for any posts. He was with the DMK party initially. After having issues with Karunanidhi, MGR had floated his party AIADMK in 1972 and went on to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Finding fault with a few scenes in the film, the former Minister said after the death of Annadurai, MGR proposed Karunanidhi as the successor of Annadurai as the Chief Minister. But the point was not mentioned in the biopic, he said.

Other scenes that should be removed are the scenes that show Jayalalitha having good relations with Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. MGR is against such ideology and therefore the scenes go in a contrasting way to MGR's ideology he said.

However, the former Minister called the biopic a well-made one and opined that the removal of such scenes would make the movie even better.

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut played the title role in the biopic that was released in multiple languages. The AL Vijay directorial had a theatrical release. The makers are receiving applause for the right cast of the lead characters. Kangana and Arvind Swamy, who played MGR, shined in the biopic.
