Mythri Movie Makers, who are bankrolling Allu Arjun's Pushpa have announced that the film will be releasing in theaters Sankranthi season. In all likelihood, the film will be out on either 24th or 25th December. An official announcement on the release date will be out in the days to come. The unit is presently focused on wrapping up the shoot at the earliest in order to make sure that there are no further delays in the completion of the shoot even if there is a third or fourth wave of Covid pandemic.
Coming to the topic, Pushpa might not have a free run at the box office this Christmas. The film will have to come up against the likes of KGF 2 and Laal Singh Chaddha, which are also eyeing Christmas release. While KGF 2 is a Kannada film that has garnered pan-India appeal thanks to the success of the first part, Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan in the lead role is one of the most awaited Hindi films of the year.
While neither of KGF 2 and Laal Singh Chaddha might pose a threat to Pushpa in the twin Telugu states, given Allu Arjun's popularity, these films might damage the pan-India prospects of Pushpa. The Allu Arjun starrer is releasing in five languages, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. With KGF 2, and Laal Singh Chaddha likely to release correspondingly with Pushpa, the Allu Arjun starrer might get off a subdued start in Karnataka and also the northern India circuit. While Karnataka is KGF 2's stronghold, Laal Singh Chaddha will be a favorite in the Hindi circuit.
Regardless, Allu Arjun enjoys a strong following base in Kerala, and in parts of Karnataka. His Hindi dubbed films are largely enjoyed by the Hindi audiences. He will most certainly get a warm welcome from pan-India audiences but it won't be a straightforward run for the film at the box office, given the competition it is likely to face from KGF 2 and Laal Singh Chaddha.
Can Allu Arjun outperform Yash and Aamir Khan to clinch the top spot at the box offices across the country? We will know the answer once the Christmas season is here and all these films hit the silver screens simultaneously.
