Raviteja and Srinu Vaitla share a great rapport. They delivered two good hits ('Venky' and 'Dubai Seenu') in their combination. The hit combo aimed for a hat-trick with 'Amar Akbar Anthony'. Are they able to deliver their best yet again?
Synopsis:
Anand Prasad & Sanjay Mishra are close buddies. They become millionaires setting up a company by name Fiedo Pharma. While Amar (Raviteja) is the son of Anand Prasad, Aishwarya (Ileana) is the daughter of Sanjay Mishra. Both the Families want them to get married. Business Partners conspire to kill the families of Anand Prasad & Sanjay Mishra. Jalal Akbar (Shayaji Shinde), who is known for his loyalty, saves Amar and Aishwarya from the murderers. Rest of the story is about how Amar and Aishwarya meet after 14 years & take revenge on the conspirators.
Performances:
Raviteja appears more handsome in 'Amar Akbar Anthony' and looks good in all the three avatars. He, however, appears clueless in many scenes and the energy for which he is known for goes missing. The role designed based on the Split-Personality Disorder didn't seem to be convincing at all.
Ileana performed really well in her comeback flick. Though she is sexy in most of the scenes, Looked quite odd at times due to the oodles of weight gained by her.
None of the four villains left a strong impact due to poor characterizations. As FBI Officer, Abhimanyu Singh overacts like never before. Comedy Tracks of Satya, Vennela Kishore and Sunil are decent at best.
Pros:
Cinematography
Production Values
Cons:
Screenplay
Direction
Forced Comedy
Technicalities:
Songs composed by SS Thaman are just decent. Of course, 'Kalala Kathala' Song & its Picturization is worth mentioning. Background Score is okay. Cinematograph by Venkat C Dileep is an asset. He succeeded in bringing a rich look to the movie. Production Values were beyond the market range of Hero-Director. What could be said about Srinu Vaitla? He seems to have learnt nothing even after three disasters in a row. The way he designed the role of Abhimanyu Singh reflects his drastic decline as a Director. Nothing seems to be working for Vaitla at the moment.
Analysis:
Srinu Vaitla-brand Comedy had thoroughly entertained the Telugu People for several years. The same template followed by him for 'Ready', 'Namo Venkatesa', 'Dookudu' and 'Baadshah' worked wonders. Thereafter, Audience began feeling monotony and made him realize it. Vaitla kept saying he changed his style and came up with a new subject but movie buffs never felt so upon watching any of his recent films.
For 'Amar Akbar Anthony', Attempt was made to present a routine revenge drama with different treatment. Unfortunately, The so-called new point chosen by Vaitla didn't fit well into the actual story. What is that new point? Protagonist appearing as a person having Split-Personality Disorder. Treatment of the 'Aparichitudu' theme in a different manner without the right intensity and conviction backfired. Illogical Scenes & Forced Comedy tested the patience of the viewers.
Srinu Vaitla tried to offer a new experience by choosing US Backdrop but it appeared unnecessary and only led to the increase of budget. Neither the new point nor the rest of the story excited the audience. Narrating the Flashback in parts didn't add any value to the project either. After the first few minutes, Viewers never get the feeling that the film is progressing in a right direction and they find it very confusing.
Unit Members boasted about vintage Srinu Vaitla Comedy in 'Amar Akbar Anthony' prior to the release. All the leading and upcoming comedians can be found in the movie but you won't get to see hilarious scenes. Only relief would be Satya, Vennela Kishore and Sunil managing to evoke few laughs. Rest of the comedians have been underutilized and wasted completely. Satirical Track on the Telugu Association in USA hasn't shaped up well. Overall, 'Amar Akbar Anthony' is slightly better when compared to Vaitla's past three films but that doesn't mean it could a Box Office winner.
Bottom Line: Illogical - Confusing - Irritating!
