Ban on female make-up artists illegal:SC

Supreme Court on Monday made sensational comments on film industry.The apex court opined that film industry mainly Bollywood is showing discrimination against woman.

The court was hearing a petition by Charu Khurana and other women make-up artists, who were rebuffed by the Makeup unions when they sought make-up artist cards.they filed petition saying that make up unions refusing to issue them cards.

After hearing the petition Supreme Court angered on the Bollywood and said there was no reason a qualified female make-up artists should be banned from film sets .The Supreme Court  by referring the discrimination on woman makeup artist termed  it as  "unconstitutional, illegal and the worst kind of gender discrimination".

 ‘’You better delete this clause on your own. Remove this immediately .We don't see a reason to prohibit a woman from becoming a make-up artist if she is qualified.Why cannot a female put make up on a male actor? We are living in 2014 and not 1850 or 1935’’the bench said

The group of women filed the petition after they were refused admission by associations of make-up artists in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.Only a member of these associations is allowed to work as a make-up artist in the production unit in the cine industry.

The court has directed the India's Cine Costume Make-up Artists and Hair Dressers Association to lift the ban on female artists with immediate effect.The bench directed the body to come back with a response within a week.
