The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday arrested Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Gujarat parliamentarian Dinu Solanki in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa.
"Solanki, BJP MP from Junagadh, was questioned at the CBI headquarters (New Delhi) for seven hours and later arrested in connection with Jethwa's murder case," said a CBI official.
Jethwa, a Right to Information (RTI) and environment activist, was shot dead outside the Gujarat High Court July 20, 2010. He had filed numerous RTI applications and a PIL against illegal mining in the Gir forest region of Gujarat.
Gujarat Police have already put Solanki's nephew, Shiva, and five others in jail in that same case.
Jethwa's family claims the MP hatched the conspiracy to kill the activist. However, Gujarat Police gave a clean chit to Solanki.
Subsequently, a division bench of the Gujarat High Court ordered a CBI probe into the case Sep 25, 2012, and the CBI arrested Solanki Tuesday.
