Update: 2021-07-27 14:12 GMT
Bollywood filmmakers show a lot of interest in exploring different subjects and try to take up sensitive subjects too. Films like 'Badhaai Ho', 'Subh Mangal Saavdhan' and others fall in this category. Now, Laxman Utekar directed another interesting and entertaining film named 'Mimi' which is based on the concept of surrogacy. The film is released on Netflix as well as Jio Cinema at the same time since 'Maddock Films' and 'Jio Studios' bankrolled this project.

The movie was supposed to release on 30th July but with the unexpected leak going viral, they released the film instantly. Kriti Sanon plays the lead role in this flick which has Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Supriya Pathak, Manoj Pahwa and others playing important roles. As the trailer revealed, 'Mimi' is a story of a beautiful young girl who aspires to become a heroine and a foreign couple decides to have a baby through surrogacy and chooses Mimi (Kriti) as the bearer of their child. A cab driver Bhanu Pratap (Pankaj Tripathi) convinces Mimi who was skeptical at the beginning but agrees after being offered 20 lakhs.

While things look encouraging for Mimi's future with all the money which is about to come, her world turns upside down when the foreign couple asks her to abort the baby. What happens next forms a very emotional, heart touching and entertaining story.

The film finely balances between entertainment and emotional. Films like this have a tendency to turn into a sobfest quite easily but it is not the case with 'Mimi'. The film establishes the characters within the first 20 minutes and the film flows flawlessly. It is an honest attempt at narrating an emotional story in a light-hearted way. But there are some scenes that really make the tears roll down your eyes. The hilarious moments are sure to make you laugh out loud.

The casting is on point, to say the least as Kriti Sanon delivers her career-best performance in the lead role. She made it clear to everyone that she is more than just a pretty face and moves you in some heavy scenes. Her dedication needs to be appreciated. Pankaj Tripathi steals the show with his timing and pitch-perfect acting. The rest of the cast members too did complete justice.

A lot of Hindi films came out on this concept and 'Mimi' is the best without a doubt. Also, 'Mimi' is the best film that came from Bollywood in recent times. The direction is exceptional and so is the background score and songs from AR Rahman who lifts the proceedings with his soulful music. 'Mimi' is sure to impress everyone and the makers should be commended for making a film on such a sensitive subject while catering to everyone.
