Bollywood's Violent Tribute To Mahatma Gandhi

Update: 2019-10-02 06:29 GMT
October 2 is Gandhi Jayanthi. Also, it's a significant milestone as it is the 150th birth anniversary of the great apostle of peace. Gandhi and non-violence are synonymous. But, know what? The film world has almost always greeting him on his birth day with films that have lot of bloodshed and violence. Yes... unbelievable but true.

Take the two films that got released on October 2. Hritik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer War has violence and bloodshed written all over it. The very name is non-violent. The posters reek of violence and the film has lot of violence and blood in it. The other release, Syeraa, is of course the story of the legendary freedom fighter. But, it has elaborate war sequences and bloodshed in it.

It's not the first time this is done. War director Siddharth Anand made Bang Bang, a movie full of violence and fight sequences on October 2 five years ago. Films with conflict and violence as the background theme like Haidar, Andhadhundh, Talwar too were released on October 2 of different years. Next year's October 2 too would not be any different as Farhan Akhtar's Toofan, which is based on boxing, would be release on the same date.

Greeting the apostle of non-violence with violence seems to be Bollywood's way of remembering the Mahatma.
