Box-Office Monthly Report: September suffers due to big films

Update: 2019-10-02 09:24 GMT
The month of September didn't witness any release from a star hero but their effect was clearly on it. The release of a gigantic film like 'Saaho' on August 30th prevented any crazy project to arrive on the first week. At the end of the month, it is the turn of Chiranjeevi's 'Sye Raa' to drive away any good film's release.

In between these two, September had few interesting films and a flurry of small films. Let us have a look at them.

 Medium range films:

First in this list is Nani's 'Gang Leader' which came on 13th September. As 'Saaho' bagged negative talk, many hoped that Nani would make full use of it. But, the film may end up as a failure to the surprise of many. Directed by Vikram Kumar, 'Gang Leader' bagged positive talk and saw good collections in its first weekend. But the collections went drastically down after that.

Any chances of 'Gang Leader's resurrection has been demolished by Varun Tej's mass entertainer 'Gaddalakonda Ganesh' which came on 20th September. Remake of Tamil film 'Jigarthanda', the title controversy was over shadowed by the film's good reception and the film crossed the break even stage and is inching towards profits. Harish’s powerful dialogues and entertaining narration coupled with Varun’s stellar performance made this film an out-and-out winner this September.

Looks as if Suriya's wait for a big hit continues as his 'Bandobasth' which released alongside 'Gaddalakonda Ganesh' ended up as an outright disaster. This film had zero buzz and even a combination like Suriya, Mohanlal and director KV Anand couldn’t draw the audience towards theaters.

'Eega' fame Sudeep too arrived with his 'Pahelwan' with 'Gang Leader' on the same day. The film had Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty playing a pivotal role and was projected as a highly-awaited film but nothing could rescue this below-par film. The film went unnoticed here.

Small Films

As no notable films planned their release on the first week, seven small films decided to try their luck but none could succeed. Films like 'Jodi' starring Aadi Saikumar, 'Undiporaadey','Darpanam', '2 Hours Love', 'Veedey Sarrainodu',Neekosam' and 'Taramani' have failed get noticed by the audience.

Reminiscing the first week, last week too saw a handful of small films like 'Rayalaseema Love Story', 'Ninnu Talachi', 'Rama Chakkani Seetha' and others getting released. As expected, most of the audience didn't know of their arrival and departure.

On the whole, September ended up as a dull month at the box-office with only one film becoming successful.
