Brahmanandam, for today generations, Brahmi Babai, used to be star of even Big star films. His characters in Baadshah, Race Gurram, Attharintiki Daredi, Jalsa, Athadu, Pokiri, Dookudu, Ready, King, Dhee, Nayak, Krishna and many more, have become so popular that they helped the movies to become bigger blockbusters and hits.
They started a trend, during which writers and directors followed a simple rule, that is, to create a good comedy track for Brahmanandam with Pridhvi, Srinivasa Reddy, Ali and few others as supporting comedians.
Whenever the comedy tracks clicked, the movies became huge hits and whenever they couldn't, still with Brahmanandam's attraction, films used to at least end up as below average grossers.
Such was the situation and demand of Brahmanandam till three years ago. Right from Aagadu, the formula became too routine and the star comedian had to re-invent himself but directors and producers couldn't come up with interesting characters for him.
Whatever he did became too routine as he did all varieties in numerous films and even he lost some of his magic touch, due to age.
Now, the actor tried to reduce his remuneration and act in even inconsequential roles but nothing worked.
So, he decided to take up the Star Maa Offer to bring The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in Hindi, a show that gave life to comedians like Raju Srivasthav, Kapil Sharma and many more, to Telugu audience.
Just like Bigg Boss, KBC as Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu, Star Maa is trying to bring in another hugely popular concept in Hindi to regional languages.
But other channels did try the same concept in several shows but nothing worked. Except for Jabardasth and Paatas, none of the comedy shows on TV have been able to give life to new comedians or stay years in popular demand.
We have to wait and see, how Brahmi will run the show as a Judge and bring new talent to limelight as that will only help the show to garner TRPs.
