Despite achieveing so much, Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli believes Rajkumar Hirani (Munnabhai franchise, 3 Idiots and PK fame) is far more better director than him.
When Karan Johar said Bollywood can't make films like what Rajamouli was doing, Rajamouli replied, "I can't make even make one scene like what Rajkumar Hirani does! I feel what he does is a much greater job than what I do. That kind of settled writing, settled emotions and hitting you so hard! I have strong emotions and I hit hard but Raju have very settled emotions and slaps you across the face. That's for me is a far more technique than what I have. Even Anurag Kashyap is my favorite director. The way he plays with the narrative and the way he puts his characters is exceptional. I think every film industry have great directors, great writers, bad directors, bad writers and bad films. We lack writers who are exceptionally good, be it Hindi, Telugu, Tamil or any other Industries. I think we can't draw comparisons between Industries. I feel each have its own merits and fallbacks".
Karan Johar described Rajamouli as someone who makes films for the audience and a master at blending technology with emotions. He even made a hard-hitting statement - 'Few directors make films for themselves. These people should prefer an in-house video/home video for themselves instead of a feature film which is meant for the audience'.
