Delhi CM Kejriwal wants suspension of Air services with Singapore

India is suffering from the second wave of Covid-19 and experts are warning that the third wave of the deadly virus might also hit the country. Amid this, AAP chief, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has a suggestion for the Centre.

Expressing his concerns over the new variant of Covid, which was detected in Singapore, the Delhi Chief Minister suggested the Union Government take measures. The measures include suspension of flight services through and fro to Singapore.

In a tweet made in the national language Hindi, Mr. Kejriwal said, a new strain of the virus was detected in Singapore, which is said to be more dangerous for children. The strain could trigger the third wave in India. 1)I appeal to the central government to cancel Air services with Singapore immediately, 2) Priority options of vaccine for children should also be worked upon.

"The new form of Corona that came to Singapore is being said to be extremely dangerous for children, in India it may come as a third wave. My appeal to the central government: 1. Air services with Singapore to be cancelled with immediate effect 2. Priority on vaccine options should be worked out for children too," his tweet in Hindi loosely translates.

Kejriwal tweeted about his concerns over the Singapore strain of Covid when several experts warned that India could see the third wave of Covid. In the third wave, children could be vulnerable to the virus.

It has to be noted that, earlier, Principal Scientific Adviser K Vijay Raghavan predicted that the third wave of the pandemic is inevitable and to fight the new strains, the vaccines should be updated.

To see that young nations in India will be safe from the deadly virus, the Centre gave a nod for the third phase of the vaccination drive against the pandemic. People between the age of 18-44 will be vaccinated in this phase.

However, the third phase of the vaccination drive was halted in a few states with vaccine shortage, while a few states in the country are yet to launch the third phase, for the same reason, shortage in vaccine supply.

India has been witnessing a steady decline in daily Covid cases for the past few days. In the past 24 hours, India reported as many as 2,63,533 cases, taking the total cases in the country to 2,52,28,996.

After 4,329 new people breathed their last in the past 24 hours, the total number of Covid deaths in the country rose to 2,78,719. With 2,15,96,512 people beating the virus, the active cases stood at 33,53,765.
