Prior to the film's release, the unit members sounded very confident. Starting from Vijay to producer Charmme, everyone were quite sure about the pan-Indian level success. But the film did not live up to the expectations and it is one of the lowest-rated films on IMDb.

It has already been reported that Puri Jagannadh will be returning back some money from the profits they made in order to compensate the buyers. Speaking about the director Puri Jagannadh, 'Liger' has definitely damaged his image and reputation. He was supposed to do another project with Vijay titled 'Jana Gana Mana'. The shooting has already started and a schedule has been finished before the release of 'Liger'. But the disastrous result forced the team to shelve the project. They claim that it is due to budget issues but many say that the result of 'Liger' is the main reason.

Presented by Karan Johar, 'Liger' is written and directed by Puri Jagannadh. Ananya Pandey was the female lead in this project while Ramya Krishnan was seen playing the role of the hero's mother. The film was promoted extensively and was released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
