Did you notice this Telugu name in National Awards?

We have been talking about fairness in Telugu Cinema like Mahanati receiving awards and unfairness in Rangasthalam being overlooked.

But a Telugu name will surprise you among the Award winners, that is Best Debut Director - Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti. He debuted with Naal in Marathi Cinema as director.  

He is an FTII alumini who was born and brought up in Guntur. He joined films as assistant DOP to Ajayan Vincent for Rajakumarudu and Yamajathakudu in 1999.

He won National Award for his short film, Ek Aakash, a silent film in 2003 and did another one in 2007, II Rewind. Same year he became DOP with Madhumasam.

He worked for Pourudu and then entered Bollywood with Mirch. Continued his journey as a DOP with Katha Kathanam Darsakatvam Appalaraju, Manasara.

With Deool in 2011, he started working in Marathi films. He did Dalam in Telugu, Nautanki Saala! in Hindi and Isaaq. From Highway Ek Selfie Aarpar he fixed to Marathi Cinema more.

In 2015, he directed a road safety short film, Jyada Akalmandi and 2016, saw his biggest success as DOP, Sairat. He again entered Bollywood with Veere Di Wedding next year.

With Nagraj Manjule, his Sairat director as lead actor and producer, he made Naal in 2018, his first film in Marathi, as director. He handled Cinematography, wrote story and screenplay for the film. Dialogues were written by Nagraj Manjule. Sudhakar also produced the film with four others.

The movie made on 3 crores budget grossed more than 31 crores at box office and it even won National Award for him. His 2 decades of struggle seems to have been awarded by this film. Will he make a Telugu film? Only time will tell.
