Debate: Does Mahanati Really Deserve a National Award?

Update: 2019-08-10 08:22 GMT
Since the announcement of National Awards has come, everyone is happy that Mahanati got an award in the Best Regional Film category. But, there is a debate going on that a lot of other Telugu movies are ignored by the jury. Especially, some young heroes and filmmakers are defending that the jury that ignored C/O Kancharapalem can't be called a jury. C/O Kancharapalem is a beautiful film but Mahanati had an edge and it resulted in the jury choosing the Nag Ashwin's directorial over all the other films.

To be brutally honest, C/O Kancharapalem deserved to win an award at the National level but Mahanati, at the same time, too deserves the award. Comparatively, Mahanati is a better and great cinema than C/O Kancharapalem. If some other movie gets an award and if it is not a good film than Mahanati or C/O Kancharapalem, the debate holds true.

But, the entire film fraternity is happy that Mahanati is given an award. There is no second thought about it and no one has expressed an opinion that Mahanati is a wrong choice. It must be kept in mind that it is a rare scenario of giving National Awards to independent movies. So, it makes no sense to expect the National award for C/O Kancharapalem.

Apart from the story thread, Mahanati over-shadows C/O Kancharapalem in all the aspects. The making standards of C/O Kancharapalem is below par standards and the reach of the movie is also less. Since Mahanati is a wholesome movie, the jury might have felt that the award is truly deserving for the makers who have worked hard in recreating the olden times. Surely, Mahanati had an edge in many aspects.

Needhi Naadi Oke Katha and Rangasthalam are also in consideration but Mahanati got this potential to go well with everyone. At the same time, it is a tribute and respect that we can give to one of the finest actors of the nation, Savitri!
