Former President receives Death Sentence

Update: 2015-05-17 07:40 GMT
Former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi received a Death Penalty after he was convicted in the 2011 Jail Break case. A Cairo court has delivered its judgement on Saturday.

Mohamed Morsi and his defendants are accused of collaborating with the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah to break into several prisons across Egypt in January 2011. The agenda behind this jail break plan is to facilitate the escape of Morsi and 20,000 others.

After receiving the Death Sentence, Morsi and his 106 defendants will wait for the final verdict of the Grand Mufti which is the highest legal authority in Egypt.

United States issued a statement that it is deeply concerned about an Egyptian court recommending a mass death sentence to Mohamed Morsi and his defendants.
