Friday Movies Get Affected By OTT Releases!

A couple of films hit the screens this Friday and some of them managed to generate decent buzz. Of the 10 films that got released, it was movies like Sirish's 'Urvasivo Rakshasivo', 'Like Share & Subscribe' from Santosh and Nandu's 'Bomma Blockbuster' which made some noise.

Among the Hindi releases, Katrina Kaif, Siddhanth Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khattar's 'Phone Bhoot' and Sonakshi Sinha's 'XL' did not get any kind of reception from the audience. All these movies failed to get good openings near the ticket windows and the OTT releases had a huge part to play in the low occupancy in theatres.

On November 4th, Ranbir Kapoor's supernatural fantasy action film 'Brahmastra' started to stream on Disney + Hotstar and Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan – 1' was released on Amazon Prime Video. They both are made on massive budgets and released on a grand scale. Despite the mixed response, they collected huge money at the box office and people who did not go to the theatres were more interested in watch these two grand projects staying at home rather than spending money on small films.

Also, both these movies were released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. So, people from all over the nation watched these two movies and insiders claim that they got huge reception on the very first day they were made available on OTT platforms.

'Brahmastra' has Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt playing the lead roles while Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, SRK, Mouni Roy and others played key roles. Ayan Mukerji directed this film and Karan Johar produced it. The second part of this movie is currently in the scripting stage.

On the other hand, 'PS – 1' is Mani Ratnam's dream project. AR Rahman composed the music while the list of lead actors include Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha and many others. The second part is expected to come out in the summer of 2023.
