Popular Hollywood Producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison after a Manhattan jury convicted him of violently performing oral sex on Project Runway movie assistant Miriam "Mimi" Haleyi in 2006 and raping hairstylist Jessica Mann in 2013.
Now, the health condition of Weinstein is critical and his lawyer said that he is allegedly broke and will die in prison if not released.
During a hearing on Friday, his lawyer said the court should take action against him on humanitarian grounds. Concerned about Harvey's health, a petition was filed seeking bail. On this occasion, his lawyer said his defendant has lost his sight due to ill health and he is using about 20 types of medications. He urged argued that the producer would die in prison if he did not provide proper medical care.
Harvey's attorney said in his arguments said Weinstein is committed to social service in his life. He has helped many people financially and in other ways.
So, he urged the court to reconsider their sentence with a humanitarian perspective in light of the social service he has done. Documents relating to Harvey's social and voluntary service were presented to the court on this occasion
