Recent incessant rains that flooded Chennai has not washed away homes, but also the Kollywood box office. Many cinema theatres in Chennai, Chengalpet, Kanchipuram, up to Cuddalore, suspended screening or limited the number of shows.
Films that were released on November 27 and December 4 were total washouts as per latest reports. Distributors estimate is that the industry has lost nearly Rs. 25 crore. All eyes are hooked to Danushâs next big film Thangamagan which is coming on next Friday (Dec 18th). If the film manages to get a good opening in Chennai and Chengalpet, the industry will heave a huge sigh of relief, say distributors.
