It is without a doubt that 'Ponniyin Selvan' is undoubtedly one of the most-awaited pan-Indian projects. This dream project of Mani Ratnam is finally arriving on 30th September. Adapted from legendary Tamil writer Kalki's 'Ponniyin Selvan' novel, the trailer was released recently and it is getting a thunderous response. Apparently, Mani Ratnam wanted to make this film from a very long time.

He is trying to take this film onto the floors with various heroes for the past three decades but it did not happen due to various issues. It finally started two years back under Lyca Productions banner. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others are playing lead roles in this historic drama. Apparently, this project was supposed to start in 1989 itself with Kamal Hassan as the lead. It was revealed by Kamal himself during an interview.

In the 'Kalki' magazine which was started by writer Kalki who wrote 'Ponniyin Selvan', Kamal gave an interview and said that Mani Ratnam wanted to make a high-budget movie based on the novel at that time. He added that Prabhu and Satyaraj agreed to play key roles and Hollywood technicians were supposed to work on it. Apparently, PC Sreeram was supposed to be the cinematographer while Ilayaraja was okayed as the music composer.

The budget was around 2 crores at that time which was too huge. Kamal said that it would have become the costliest South Indian film at that time. Kamal and Rajnikanth came together for the pre-release event of 'Ponniyin Selvan' as chief guests.

Ravi Varman is the director of photography while Sreekar Prasad is the editor. We all know that it is an AR Rahman musical while Eka Lakhani designed the wardrobe. The action was composed by Kecha Khamphakdee, Sham Kaushal & Dhilip Subbarayan.
